Tab 400 mg: Sodium clodronate 400 mg, Inj 300 mg: Sodium clodronate 300 mg
Indications & Dosage
Osteolytic lesions, hypercalcaemia and bone pain associated with skeletal metastases in patients with breast cancer or multiple myeloma: Adult: 1.6 g daily in 1–2 divided doses, then increased if necessary up to 3.2 g daily in 2 divided doses. BY SLOW IV INF: Adult: 300 mg daily for up to 7 days.
Contraindications
Acute severe gastro-intestinal inflammatory conditions.
Precautions
Atypical femoral fractures, oesophageal abnormalities, upper gastro-intestinal disorders. Maintain adequate fluid intake during treatment. Avoid in severe renal impairment.
Interactions
Calcium, magnesium, iron or aluminium salts. Antacids, NSAIDs, aminoglycosides, estyramustine.
Pregnancy
Contraindicated in pregnancy.
Lactation
Contraindicated or not recommended.
Side Effects
GI disorders, renal disorder, proteinuria, respiratory disorder, musculoskeletal pain, duodenitis, dysphagia, oesophageal ulcer, oesophagitis, gastroduodenal ulceration, hepatic disorders, osteonecrosis of the jaw. Rare Atypical femoral fractures, glossitis, oesophageal stricture
