Composition
Inj: Iron as sodium ferric gluconate complex 125 mg.
Indications & Dosage
Iron deficiency anaemia in haemodialysis patients receiving epoetin therapy: Adults: 125 mg iron (10 ml) diluted in 100 ml 0.9% NaCI; infused over 1 hour or undiluted as slow IV inj (12.5 mg/min) during dialysis. Children 6yrs: 1.5 mg/kg of elemental iron (0.12 ml/kg), diluted in 25 ml 0.9% NaCI, infused over 1 hr Max: 125 mg per dose.
Contraindications
Diverticular disease, intestinal obstruction, haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis, repeated blood transfusion.
Precautions
Inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal strictures, diverticular.
Interactions
Tetracyclines.
