Tab: Tibolone 2.5 mg.
Indications & Dosage
Short-term treatment of symptoms of oestrogen deficiency, Vasomotor symptom in menopause, Osteoporosis prophylaxis in women at high risk of fractures when other prophylaxis contraindicated or not tolerated: Adult (female): 1 tab daily for minimum 3 months Children: Not applicable.
Contraindications
Active or history of arterial thromboembolic disease (e.g. angina or myocardial infarction),active or history of thrombophlebitis, acute porphyrias, Dubin-Johnson and Rotor syndrome (or monitor closely), history of breast cancer, history of cardiovascular disease, history of cerebrovascular disease, history of recurrent venous thromboembolism (unless already on anticoagulant treatment), hormone-dependent tumours, liver disease, oestrogen-dependent cancer, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, untreated endometrial hyperplasia, venous thromboembolism
Precautions
Acute porphyrias, diabetes (increased risk of heart disease),epilepsy, factors predisposing to thromboembolism, history of breast nodules; closely monitor (risk of breast cancer), history of endometrial hyperplasia, history of fibrocystic disease, history of liver disease, hypertriglyceridaemia, hypophysealtumours, migraine, presence of antiphospholipid antibodies, prolonged exposure to unopposed oestrogens may increase risk of developing endometrial cancer, risk factors for oestrogen-dependenttumours, risk of stroke
Interactions
Anticoagulants, phenytoin, carbamazepine, ri-fampicin.
Side Effects
Abdominal pain, facial hair, leucorrhoea, vaginal bleeding, weight changes, arthralgia, breast cancer, depression, dizziness,GI disturbances, headache, increased risk of gall-bladder disease, migraine, myalgia, oedema, pruritus, rash, seborrhoeic dermatitis, symptoms of endometriosis may be exacerbated, uterine fibroids may increase in size, visual disturbances. Rare: Amnesia
