Composition
24 hormone-containing light pink film-coated tablets: Each tablet contains 0.020 mg ethinylestradiol (as betadexclathrate), 3 mg drospirenone. 4 hormone-free white film-coated tablets
Indications & Dosage
Oral contraceptive (with hormone-related fluid retention and resulting symptoms), acne vulgaris with use of oral contraception, symptoms of PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) with use of oral contraception and dysmenorrheal with use of oral contraception: Females of childbearing potential:1 tablet is to be taken daily for 28 consecutive days;1 pink(hormone containing) tablet daily, starting on the first day of menstruation, at the same time, without interruption for 24 days, then 1 white(hormone free) tablet for 4 days.The failure rate may increase when pills are missed or taken incorrectly.
Contraindications
Presence or a history of venous or arterial thrombotic/thromboembolic events (e.g. deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction) or of a cerebrovascular accident; Presence or history of prodromi of a thrombosis (e.g. transient ischaemic attack, angina pectoris); A high risk of venous or arterial thrombosis; History of migraine with focal neurological symptoms; Diabetes mellitus with vascular involvement; Severe hepatic disease as long as liver function values have not returned to normal; Severe renal insufficiency or acute renal failure; Presence or history of liver tumors (benign or malignant); Known or suspected sex-steroid influenced malignancies (e.g. of the genital organs or the breasts); Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding; Known or suspected pregnancy; Lactation; Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients. Should any of the conditions appear for the first time during COC use; discontinue the product immediately
Precautions
Prolonged immobilization, major surgery, any surgery to the legs, or major trauma, in these situations it is advisable to discontinue COC use (in the case of elective surgery at least four weeks in advance) and not to resume until two weeks after complete remobilization, smoking, dyslipoproteinemia, hypertension, migraine, valvular heart disease, atrial fibrillation, diabetes mellitus, systemic lupus erythematosus, hemolytic uremic syndrome, chronic inflammatory bowel disease (Crohns disease or ulcerative colitis) and sickle cell disease, hypertriglyceridemia, sustained clinically significant hypertension, hereditary angioedema, acute or chronic disturbances of liver function, varicose veins, superficial phlebitis, osteosclerosis, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, porphyria, herpes gestationis, Sydenhams chorea, chloasma, heart rhythm/valve disorder, family history of thrombosis; heart attack or stroke; obesity, family history of breast cancer, depression, unusual severe upper abdominal complaints,
Interactions
Antiepileptic drugs (barbiturates, phenylbutazone, hydantoins), anti-TB drugs (rifampicin), ritonavir, anti-biotics' (penicillins, tetracyclines, griseofulvin) & St. Johns Wort.
Side Effects
Headache, migraine, GI upset, nausea,breast tenderness, pain, enlargement & secretion, changes in body weight & libido, vaginal secretions, emotional lability, depression/ depressive mood, unscheduled uterine bleeding, genital tract bleeding not further specified various skin reactions, hypersensitivity reactions.
